Department Of Pathology

National Institute of Child Health is a tertiary care hospital. It is dealing with heavy burden of Patients from Sindh and Balochistan. NICH is a teaching hospital both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Department of Pathology is working around the clock providing all the necessary services of the patients of NICH.

Department of Pathology is itself divided into subspecialties, the main ones are clinical haematology, histopathology and microbiology. Each area is staffed by trained peoples.
New specialized tests are also introduced recently e.g. FSH, LH, inslulin, Testoseron, Growth harmone, Cotsol, IGF, 17 OH-Progesterone, tissue, Transglutminase [IgA and IgG], HBA1C. More tests will be introduced soon after the completion of new laboratory. These tests will be PCR immunofloraance, microscopy, flowcytometery etc.

There are about 2,50,000 tests are done in lab yearly.

Blood Bank

NICH blood bank was established in 1997. Since then it is providing free of cost services of blood grouping, cross matching and screening for hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, VDRL and HIV. It is providing whole blood packed cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelates to the patients in NICH.
Equipment like Cryofuge, ELISA AND IMX is being used in blood bank. The Blood Bank has two doctors, one medical technologist and seven technicians and is providing 24 hours screening and transfusion services to the patients.
It is funded partly by the Federal government, National Aid Control Programme and NGO (Sada Welfare Organization). Blood on exchange as well as on charity basis is provided. All services are provided free of cost.
